About Dr. Alison Geymer, PT, DPT...

Picture
Dr Alison Geymer, PT, DPT, CWS, CLT is a leading Neurologic Physical Therapist and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist in the North Fort Worth/Keller area who helps older adults move and feel better through use of intense exercise that is interactive, social and FUN!

She founded Geymer Physical Therapy and Wellness in 2016. During Alison’s 10+ years as a physical therapist, she noticed that clients were being told to “exercise” after being discharged from physical therapy but did not have the resources in the area to continue safe exercise. It is then that she became a certified Rock Steady Boxing coach and began offering group boxing classes for people with Parkinson’s Disease. The initial group started in Alison’s garage so that she could offer this awesome and much needed service as soon as possible to her community. Alison has also been seeing clients in their homes for one on one physical therapy to prepare them for group exercise classes or to rehab them for various issues in order to return safely to class participation. Alison provides both services in order to seamlessly transition people throughout their continuum of care. She believes that people with chronic neurological disorders should have the highest quality access to care throughout their duration to allow them to achieve their highest quality of life.

Alison realized there was a need for more services and class offerings, so she has recently expanded the practice to include a physical location and now offers group classes to serve people with Parkinson’s, people who have had a stroke, head injury or concussion and those with dizziness and balance difficulties. With the move to our new space, Alison can serve a greater population, serving those who are retired as well as those who are still in the workforce. She believes that Fitness is Achievable, and necessary, at Any Age and despite any obstacles!

Alison also recently had her 3rd child in 2018 and had a rude awakening. She went from applying to be on American Ninja Warrior to not being able to do a jumping jack without leaking or feeling like her insides were falling out. She had difficulty finding trainers, doctors or physical therapists in the area who were knowledgeable in pelvic floor issues in athletes/high level fitness enthusiasts. Because of this, she is now also obtaining her Certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist and is wholly passionate about helping other postpartum moms heal and return to their high-level sports activities without damaging their pelvic floor muscles and without worrying if they are going to pee on themselves in the middle of the gym!

Alison graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology from Texas A&M University. She continued with her education, graduating with a Master of Physical Therapy as well as a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

She became a Board Certified Specialist in Wound Care through the American Board of Wound Management as well as a certified lymphedema therapist. She is also a certified Rock Steady Boxing Coach, a certified PWR! Moves therapist and an LSVT BIG trained provider of Parkinson’s specific therapy and exercises. She has been certified in Neuro-IFRAH to treat post stroke and TBI clients. She is passionate about assisting older adults to be proactive about maintaining their physical health and fitness so they can remain active and independent throughout their lives.

Alison is married to her husband Scott; together they have 6 kids, ages 7 months to 16. In her free time, she loves to work out herself and attend her numerous kid’s sporting events.
